The purpose of Rapid Product Development Centre is to provide a means to become a product differentiation leader in an international market. A mechanism to achieve this goal over time is the establishment of a Light Alloy Technology Centre for rapid design and prototyping, with specialised equipment for alloy preparation, product development, and short/medium production runs.
Together with a quantum shift in management and manufacturing thinking, and market intelligence (which would be delivered through the Centre by expert teams) , this will allow LAM-NZ companies to respond rapidly to changing market needs, thereby increasing competitiveness, growing the successful companies and offering highly skilled manufacturing positions to New Zealanders. In summary, the Centre is aim to achieve:
- Create an innovative market driven
- Enable competitiveness within LAM-NZ companies through fastest speed to market (i.e. Tested products and technology technology road-mapping)
- Enable LAM-NZ manufacturing companies to run lean
- Provide a centralised hub of core capabilities and competencies
- Provide training and providing grounds in new technologies
- Pursue activity that will enable self sustainability
